Bear #503 “Cubadult” is a male brown bear first identified in 2014 at Brooks River in Katmai National Park and Preserve. He earned his nickname after being abandoned by his mother, Bear #402, at approximately 1.5 years old. Left to navigate the wilds of Katmai alone, he was later observed spending time with Bear #435 “Holly” and her cub, Bear #719 “Princess,” effectively adopting him into her family. Over time, Cubadult has grown into a formidable presence at Brooks River, known for his strength and resilience.
In 2025, Cubadult was observed fishing at Brooks Falls, showcasing his continued adaptability and survival skills in the challenging environment of Katmai National Park.
