Bear #151

Year First Observed: 2009
Year Last Observed: 2025

Bear #151 "Walker" is a large adult male brown bear first recorded as an independent two-year-old in 2009 at Brooks River in Katmai National Park and Preserve. He is identified by his long, tapering muzzle, widely spaced upright ears, and prominent dark eye rings visible in early summer. By late summer his fur deepens to a rich dark brown. His many scars speak to a life of hard-won dominance among Brooks River's bears.

Walker is an offspring of Bear #818 and was successfully darted in 2016 by Ranger Michael Saxton as part of a genetics study. As a young adult he was regularly displaced by more dominant bears, but he has since grown into one of the largest and most assertive bears on the river.
